Health insurance was an irregular feature in the lives of the Marin family. Lack of coverage brought constant worry about their overall health as well as their finances. "We were often turned away when we needed to see a doctor," said Mauricio and Maria, who have two young boys, Jeremy and Jeffrey. When the Marin's needed to take their oldest son to the doctor, they were afraid they would be denied yet again. They ended up going to a local clinic where the staff told them about the Healthy Kids program, and helped them apply.
With the help they received from a Healthy Kids community partner, the Marin's were finally able to make health coverage a constant feature in their kids' lives. Healthy Kids coverage lasts for one full year and is renewable by providing updated information. "We would definitely tell other families to not be afraid to apply," said Mauricio. "With the help we received, it was very easy to apply… though it's hard to find words to express what having this coverage means to us."
